It has been quite a long time since I have seen an anime that is exceptionally good at disproving my assumptions or has wowed me 'cause of great surprises. So I'm thrilled to share this one and insist that you watch this as soon as possible.
The Promised Neverland (Yakusoku no Neverland) is a 12-episode anime series, which premiered on January 10 and ended on 29th of March. It's directed by Mamoru Kanbe (Elfen Lied) and animated by the studio CloverWorks.
(I promise I won't spoil anything, so I'll just provide a preface and list down the characters you seriously need to pay attention to.)
The story revolves around 38 children who live in an orphanage on what they call The House. They are all supervised by Sister Isabella who acts as their guardian (also known as their 'Mom / Mama'). She provides them all the necessary basic things a child needs to live a happy life.
Among the children, there are three 11-year olds who excels in almost everything. The first is Norman, the most intelligent of the three. He is calm and knows how to plan ahead. Next is Ray, a thinker, and said to be a better tactician than the former. And lastly, there's Emma, she's athletic, and known to have fast learning ability. Aside from that, she also has a sympathetic personality.
Apart from the names mentioned above, there's also Don, who is quick to judge and easy to lose his temper, Gilda the closest female friend of Emma, and Phil, the brightest of all the children under six years old.
During their free time, they like to play outside (especially the Game of Tag). They can do anything they like, except they are not allowed to go beyond the gate or too deep in the forest.
And... that's it. I can't go any further, or else I might ruin your viewing experience. Do pay attention to the script, and also the music (it's so effin' good).
Here's a small trivia: Ray and Norman's voice actors are the same with Alluka and Killua Zoldyck's respectively (they are characters from Hunter X Hunter in case you don't know).
